Raleigh-Durham Scrabble Club

New to Scrabble? Here are a few things you should know about our club!

Club meets on the first, third, and fifth Saturday of every month. Our sister club, the Triangle Scrabble club, meets on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month at Greek Fiesta in Brier Creek.

Although not required, it is strongly encouraged for players to bring their own equipment. Feel free to ask the organizers if you would like information on how and where to buy equipment.

The challenge rule is double challenge, meaning that players can question the validity of any word. New players can do so without any penalty, and can also try words without penalty for the first few sessions.

The normal penalty goes as so: if the word is valid, the challenge was unsuccessful, and the person challenging loses their turn. If the word is invalid, then the challenge is successful, the play is removed from the board and scored as zero, and it is now the challenging player's turn.

There are two other Scrabble clubs in the region featuring more casual play. Our sister club, the Triangle Scrabble Club, is also NASPA-sanctioned, and meets at Greek Fiesta on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. Also, the Cary Scrabble Meetup features four-player games in a very casual setting. Fees are a dollar per game.

Cheat sheets will be provided, with information on useful Scrabble words, such as the two and three letter words. Most players at club have a working knowledge of many useful, obscure Scrabble words.

Many of our players are very strong. Most of our players regularly score over 400 points and will play multiple bingos in a game. It is our hope that players will stay encouraged: we're happy to help players learn!
